Vertebral Distraction Pump (V.D.P.)
- How does the V.D.P work?
- This instrument uses motion, flexion - distraction, which helps the disc bulge / herniation to retract, taking pressure off of the surrounding spinal soft tissues / nerves, reducing the pain level.
- How is the procedure performed?
- The doctor uses information obtained from your examination / x-rays / MRI to determine which disc is causing the most trouble. Ice will be placed over the disc level to be worked on for 15 minutes. After that, the actual procedure is relatively quick, usually within 5 minutes!
- When will I notice a difference?
- Most patients start to feel an improvement (usually a significant improvement) after the first or second session.
- What type of condition is the V.D.P. used for?
- Disc bulge or disc herniation, often called a ruptured disc / disc extrusion or the old term "slipped disc".
